Legal rights for animals through open rescue

We rescued Pao from a dog meat farm in Yulin, China in 2016.

Rights for animals starts with animal rescue

Open rescue is the legal last resort for animals the legal system has refused to protect. Its power stems from the obvious fact that animals in distress are each individuals with a right to loving guardianship

Our vision is constitutional rights for animals

We rescued Lilly and Lizzie as piglets from a certain death by disease and starvation. And that gave us the opportunity in court to argue that their rights were violated

Our goals are big. Here’s how we’ll get there

Evidence on social change shows the need to think big, and think strategically

Our values determine how we do what we do

A movement for open rescue is our goal, and our values form the handrail to keep to the path

We Rescue

Open rescue is our North Star and the embodiment of the work we do. Other social issues are important, our focus is animal rights.

We are Radically Candid

We challenge each other directly and care about each other personally. We believe in the duty to disagree, but we do not gossip or call people out

We are Radically Nonviolent

We intervene to stop violence with the power of compassion. We resolve conflict – both internal and external – without hatred or resentment.

We are Brave

We accept suffering without retaliation. We don’t focus on our own safety, but, rather, the safety of others.
